MOUNTAIN LODGE
COMPETITION
TYPOLOGY< Public, Shelter
STATUS<[2015] Competition
LOCATION>Himalchuli mountain area, Nepal
The mountain hut relates strongly to the environment and endeavours to provide the visitors a warm, welcoming safe place to sleep in.
The hut is iconic and can be easily seen from a far distance.
The intention here is to allow flexibility in the design and the framework structure has been given a strong sustainable consideration in order to minimize the environmental impact.
At the same time there has been incorporated into this design the five elements and the traditional Buddhist key concepts of the Eightfold Path through the use of its numerical systems.
The design of this hut has been designed to withstand the potential harsh weather conditions with its tent like roof.
The structure of the framework is based on a three metre modular system which allows for easy prefabrication before the units are then transported onto site by Helicopter.
The mountain hut is made entirely of recycled wood and has glued laminated timber beams.
The use of the materials makes this hut recyclable up to 95%.
The hut is eco friendly, ready to meet the demands of the visitors as well as meeting the high standards of sustainability with a compacting system that operates the toilet filter system nearby.
The hut is to be equipped with the latest technological systems with its supply of solar energy to be provided by solar photovoltaic panels on the south facing roof, capable of generating up to approx. 100kWh per day.
Nearby we have as additional facilities on site the temporary shelters and the retreat centre. These have been placed here in order to create an environment of Peace and comfort that tallies well with the local Buddhist traditions.
Furthermore there are several origami like sculptures that lie scattered around on the ground nearby that reflect the jagged nature of the surrounding mountains. These art works are intended to compliment the design of the mountain hut and the various shelters nearby.
The wind breakers outside are important provisions that will protect the hut against the prevailing winds.
