This new laminated timber (LTB) boarded construction with its open space offers several solutions that will enable the long term low environmental footprint of this Garden house.

LTB is to be used, underllining this new timber construction in recognition of the material’s green credentials and furthermore for the positive impact it can have on the Owner’s health and well-being.

It is envisaged that the LTB can be engineered in such a manner as to create a comfortable warm space, thus ensuring a light and pleasant living area.

Externally this Garden House has suspended metal frames, erected round the walls with a good mixture of warm weather and evergreen planting.

This outer woven ‘green’ walls help to disguise this construction throughout the seasons.  They will also provide shade and reduce the building’s energy consumptions and contribute much to the local biodiversity.

As a backdrop to the main green elevations, are the Garden Home’s charred wooden surfaces as used in the traditional Japanese method of wood perservation. This is known as Yakisugi and which makes the wood durable and waterproof, thus negating the need for painting.

Inside there is a reversible air-water pump system that heats and cools this Garden House, alongside the rooftop planting which can contribute much to the local biological insect environment.

At the heart of this home, a long staircase has been included into the plan and there is sufficient space here to welcome the owners when they arrive.

The main material palette however is timber, achieved through its timber frames and a careful selection of timber finishes.
